A tiny bar named A Romantic Space, just north of Village North in Sanlitun, offers a “camp” feel in the heart of the city. Four tents are set up out front, each one with a table, a heat lamp, and enough chairs for a handful of people. Enjoy a tumbler of whiskey and some chuan while imagining the street in front is the silvery reflection of a trout-filled river, the beeping horns the sound of migrating geese, the occasional drunk patrons stumbling by a herd of moose that just spent an ironic evening at “Shooters”.

The indoor area is small, with space for about a dozen patrons. The cocktails are prohibitively priced in the RMB50 to RMB65 range, while bottled beer is RMB25 and up.  A pint of Beijing draft is on special at RMB10, while chuan and chicken wings range from RMB2 to RMB5.

This place won’t appeal to everyone, but it’s a neat idea executed by an eager and friendly staff.
