Meaty thoughts: Do I write too much about burgers in Beijing?
When City Weekend and I spoofed each other last April Fool’s Day, the staff there picked on my burger posts (see The Boyce Burger Burger Burger Tour). Now Global Times has published this collection of comments I made about burgers in Beijing in 2010. Maybe I do spend too much time eating and writing about burgers, but… they taste so good. Speaking of which, if I could only pick five burgers to eat before leaving Beijing, here are the options that pop into my head:
- Blue Frog: That juicy chicken burger on a whole wheat bun. Actually, I like most of the burgers here, including the Montana, the blue cheese, and the Mexican, especially during that two-for-one deal on Mondays...
- Kiosk: The beef-pork combo special known as the Big Bite. You don’t leave this place hungry…
- Maison Boulud: The sirloin burger stuffed with short rib and foie gras. Rich…
- Cafe Bellissimo: I had the tasty cheeseburger once but the memory lingers. This would be my wild card choice…
- Street side (literally): A donkey burger served at that card table surrounded by four plastic stools that Mr Brau introduced me to (best to bring your own mustard)…
I’m tempted to add Chef Too but haven’t had a burger there for a long time. I will rectify that soon and will also check out the burger at Rumi given that JF gives it two thumbs up. By the way, the one I miss most: The Buffalo chicken burger from the former Rickshaw. So tasty…
