Sips & bites: Lunch at Palatte Vino, beer pong at Kokomo, plus Everwines, Drei Kronen 1308

set lunch at palattte vino beijng chinaHutong wine bar and restaurant Palette Vino has weekday lunch specials for rmb45, rmb58 and rmb88, plus — weather permitting — a pleasant courtyard in which to eat them (see below). I enjoyed the fettucine with shrimp and asparagus last week (see above). It came with tomato-egg soup and bread. Add a coffee for rmb15.

Everwines, retail branch of wine importer and distributor Torres, has added more seating out front at its Xindong Road location. Buy bottles for takeaway from the full Torres portfolio, including Chinese brands Grace Vineyard and Silver Heights, or, for rmb50 more, drink them in the lounge or two patio areas. Snacks like bruschetta are available and you can order in Gung Ho pizza. On the flip side, Gung Ho pizza includes Grace wines among its beverage options.

Hans Gerner of Drei Kronen 1308 says this Workers Stadium East beer haven will show the European Champions League final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund this weekend. It’s an early one, so it might be easiest to simply melt a Saturday night of partying into a 2:45 AM Sunday morning match. It might also be a good time to try the extra strong Bavarian Special Maybock beer made by Andreas Roehrl.

For those seeking some beer pong action, Mash Up Sports has a tournament on May 25 at Kokomo. Even if your team loses in the first round, you get a pitcher of beer. Entry fee is rmb100. Sign up here.

  1. In order to be neutral in Champions League terms, you should at least mention a beer from Dortmund or thereabouts! The only one I know of is DAB (Dortmunder Aktienbrauerei) which is an OK lager, available here and there and maybe even in Jenny Lou’s. But I’m sure you know more than I do.
