Brews and stews: St. Patrick’s Day in Beijing 2013

There’s The Irish Ball. And two days of all-you-can-drink beer, with five stout options, at Great Leap. And plenty of shenanigans at The Lush Rush. And a newcomer called Paddy’s Irish Bar. And specials from usual suspects like The Stumble Inn and The James Joyce (see here). And a Murphy’s pub crawl and more (see here). Thus, no shortage of St. Patrick’s Day fun in Beijing this year. But just in case you are looking for even more spots to mark the day with a drink, here are a few that deliver day in and day out:

  • The Den. A pint of Guinness is rmb30 every day of the year from 5 PM to 10 PM. It’s like a permanent St. Patrick’s Day special. On the day itself, you can get that pint and a serving of Irish stew for rmb55.
  • Union Bar & Grille: This venue also deserves a mention for featuring rmb30 glasses of Guinness during the daily happy hour to 8 PM.
  • The Irish Volunteer: It ranks among my favorite locals and will be having drink and food specials, including stew, tonight and all day tomorrow.
  • Nashville: An excellent whiskey selection and happy hour — two-for-one daily from 5 PM to 8 PM — with Irish tipples, too, though our regular-priced pours on a recent visit were on the light side. Still good value for happy hour.
