Whiskey in Beijing: Town Branch, Pearse Lyons Reserve, Bluegrass Sundown

Whiskey fans in Beijing should have their hands on three new products from Alltech, the Kentucky-based company best known in this city’s drinking circles for its Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. The trio includes the whiskey Town Branch, which is also the name of the distillery that opened last year in Lexington and in turn named after the stream that flows beneath the city.

It will also include Pearse Lyon Reserve Whiskey, named after the Irish-born owner of Alltech. Patrick Lin, who works with Alltech in China, says this single malt aims to evoke an Irish style.

The last member of the trio is Bluegrass Sundown. Alltech’s Kentucky Ale site describes it as “reminiscent” of Irish coffee but with a “decidedly Kentucky spin”.

“[This] is a dark roasted coffee infused with Kentucky Bourbon and sugar,” says the site, and adds that boiling water is added when serving “to fully release the flavors and aromas.”
