Sips & bites: Breakfast at Wagas, lunch at Veloce, dinner at Back Alley Bistrot

The Back Alley Bistrot Backslide

~

Wagas has built quite a reputation over the past few months, no doubt aided by its next-door neighbor and major rival, Element Fresh, being closed during that same time. And according to Swire’s Sanlitun Village website, Wagas is offering 50 percent off breakfast on weekdays throughout October. “From now on, 8:00 to 10:00, Monday to Friday, 50% OFF Express Sandwiches. Fresh, nutritious and delicious breakfast being served in Wagas!” See the details here.

Meanwhile, Bar Veloce in 1949: The Hidden City has expanded to lunch. Look for set menus from 11 AM to 2 PM and a la carte options from 11 AM to 12:30 PM, says manager Krishna Hathaway. The lineup includes new salads, bruschettas and desserts, and will be available daily, including weekends.

Finally, Back Alley Bistrot is slated to open on October 9, north of Workers Stadium and just off Xingfucun Middle Road. Yes, I know a slated opening has already passed but owner Jeff Powell — showing his moves above — says he is 90 percent sure this time. And there are always those tasty Frost burgers next door or Uncle Otis and The Big Smoke across the street. Speaking of burgers, I have an idea for Frost for Halloween…

Scary delicious
