Fourth of July in Beijing: Scarlett, Cuju, Frost, Drive-Thru, Brick, Q Bar, Lush, Nola, Q-Mex, Kro’s Nest, Union & Eudora Station

~

Here is an update on Fourth of July events / specials happening in Beijing this year. I’ll update on this page if I hear of any more…

SCARLETT

Free-flow Philly steak sandwiches, ribs, hot dogs and Budweiser. RMB298, 6 PM to 10 PM.

CUJU

Popping caps on a trio of American beers — Brooklyn Lager, Brooklyn IPA and Red Seal Ale. RMB25 per bottle, 6 PM to midnight.

FROST

Jeff Powell set a record this week with 44 burgers off the grill in three hours. He’ll have that baby fired up tom0rrow,  July 4, with a cheeseburger and a bottle of American Amber Ale at rmb70.

THE DRIVE-THRU

Get a package of eight bottled beers, including Red Seal Ale, Brooklyn Lager and Blue Star Wheat, for rmb186. This place also just added Yellow Snow IPA if you prefer something tasty from a tap.

BRICK

Word is there will be plenty of shenigans, including Brit versus Yank boat races and a frozen shirt contest, in which that piece of apparel is solidified as a block and contestants must — as fast as they can — make it flexible enough to wear. Sounds chilling. My only source of info is a guy at Brussels, and I didn’t hear back from my text to Lee Mitchell, so reader beware. For all I know, The Brick will be forcing Americans to engage in a donkey pizza eating contest while gargling PBR to Rule Britannia. You just never know.

Q BAR

Alumni of Columbia, Yale and Princeton might want to check out this party on the terrace.

LUSH

Expect this Haidian watering hole to have a pub quiz, with a USA focus, followed by live music. The food and drinks deals, which go all day and night, include rmb10 PBR tall boys, rmb30 Lush Burgers (original, chicken, teriyaki or tofu) and rmb40 tequila trays with six shots, plus Red, White, and Blue jello shots. Josh Lolly says entry if free, but if the place gets packed, they might direct people to nearby Pyro for beer pong, pizza and rmb10 PBR.

NOLA

A special session of the all-you-can-eat crawfish event, normally held Sundays, is slated for Wednesday, says Brandon Trowbridge. Stuff your face for rmb130 from 6 PM t0 9 PM while washing it all down with two-for-one PBR. The more sophisticated can sample from among NOLA’s American craft beers or perhaps a Bourbon or two.

Q-MEX

This Sanlitun South newcomer will hold a “Fourth of July Mexican BBQ” from 5 PM, with a menu that ranges from ribs to “Bandera” Popsicles in red, white and blue. The party starts at 5 PM.

KRO’S NEST

Bucket of five beers — Brooklyn Lager and Summer Ale, Rogue Amber Ale, North Coast Red Seal and Acme Pale Ale — for rmb140. There is also a hot dog deal: Get an all-beef wiener plus curly fries or onion rings and iced tea or tsingao for rmb65. The deal applies at both locations.

UNION BAR & GRILLE

Despite the kitchen getting a complete overhaul, Union will doing happy hour from 4 PM to close, which covers everything from Brooklyn Lager to Jim Beam to Mondavi Zinfandel to Long Island Iced Tea. The menu consists of sandwich and salad options, but includes some American-inspired ones, including the Southwest BBQ Chicken Salad and the Cajun Chicken and Avocado Wrap, all at 10 percent off.

July 5

The American Chamber of Commerce will hold a party at Eudora Station from 5 PM to 8 PM, with all-you-can-eat American food, plus the band Overdrive. Entry is rmb300 for members and rmb450 for nonmembers. Click here for details.
