The Beijing branch of Canada-based The Fairmont Hotel chain is going all-out to celebrate Canada Day this year. Here are some upcoming events:

  • Canada Grade-Eh Week (June25 to July 1)

Restaurant The Cut will have Alberta beef, including strip loins and rib eyes, available during the Grade Eh Week being organized by establishments owned or managed by Canadians in Beijing (see a list of other participants here). This is especially newsworthy since Canadian beef hasn’t been available in Beijing for the better part of a decade, says the hotel’s marketing director, Nick Stipp . More details on this deal soon

  • “Taste Canada” at The Cut (through July)

All month long, The Fairmont will feature a four-course menu that includes beef from Alberta, salmon from British Columbia and lobster from the Atlantic provinces. The meal comes paired with Canadian wines and is rmb888.

  • Canada Day Brunch at The Fairmont (July 1)

This will be a special edition of the hotel’s Sunday brunch, co-hosted by Canadian Embassy chef Rosalyn Ediger and Fairmont chef Marcus Routbard. Look for Canadian items that range from that Alberta beef to poutine and “timbits”. And, of course, Caesars. Brunch is rmb458 with soft drinks, rmb588 with Canadian wine, beer and cocktails, rmb688 with Champagne. Children under six eat for free, while those aged six to twelve eat for half-price.

  • Fairmont at the Canada Day party (June 30)

The hotel is a catering partner for the annual Canada Day party held by the Canada-China Business Council at the Canadian International School of Beijing. Stipp says the fare will include Nanaimo bars and burgers.

The Fairmont is at 8 Yong An Dong Li and can be reached at 8507-3617.
