Gramercy has opened on the first floor of You-Town, just down from Blue Frog, and includes a bar, said to draw inspiration from New York-style bistros although with a few industrial touches, as well as a retail space across the hall and — soon — a patio that will hold, if memory serves, about 15 tables. The menu has ~20 wines by the glass, starting at rmb30 for a decent Portuguese red. Imbibers can also peruse the more extensive bottle list, which includes options from ASC, Links and Summergate, among others. The kitchen is not yet fully up and running, but there are plans to do a business lunch. Good value during the daily happy hours, with half-price wine by the glass from 5 PM to 8 PM.
I have not been to Haze but I thought the delivery menu photos this place posted on Facebook looked pretty good. The prices look good, too, starting at rmb22 for stewed sausage and rice and rmb24 for Taiwan braised pork and rice or stewed chicken leg. Use the coupon below and get a free soup or soda. You can order from 5900-6128, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday. The prices last until June 8.
Tracy Allen, well-known in the coffee industry as a consultant, a judge and the head of Brewed Behavior, will visit Beijing and lead several cupping classes at Ocean Grounds in You-Town on April 28 and April 29. Each class is limited to ten students and most seats are already full so it is best to book a space as soon as possible if you intend to attend. The fee is RMB450 and includes a pound of organic beans and a drip coffee brewer, two items that alone cost over rmb400, says Jim Lee. Email caly (at) oceangroundscoffee.com to book a space. The Ocean Grounds coffee menu currently includes roasts from Brazil, Ethiopia, Peru, New Guinea and Guatemala.
