One case only: Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale at Home Plate BBQ

Was heading from Lido to Sanlitun and decided to stop at Home Plate to grab a bite and send some emails. Sometimes timing is everything: Brandon Hess of beer distributor Dxcel had just arrived with a case of Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. This is the only case in Beijing, he says, though more will be coming to market in a few months, so head to Home Plate if you want a try. This beer is aged six weeks in Bourbon barrels, adds Hess. Expect a strong brew as it checks in at 8.19 percent alcohol (how precise!). A few more emails and I will be trying one of these…

You have to be kidding me. This is the most awesome thing I have ever seen, and it fills me with hope for the future!

I’m moving to Beijing in a couple of months, so I’m excited to see my favorite beer showing up there. I can’t imagine how hard it is to get there, since I have to get family members to bring it to me in Washington, DC when they drive back from Kentucky. I have a case and half in my basement that I’m slowly working through and biding my time until I get another delivery. Is the Bourbon Barrel going to show up on the menu there regularly? If so, this place has a new #1 fan on the way over.

Just went and tried it at lunch today. It’s legit. An absolutely amazing beer. Dxcel is on a roll with this beer and the Templeton Rye they started bringing into China.

Why is their only one case in the city? Looks like a cool brew.

@lauren – i’m guessing it was a very very small allocation, more as a bonus or gift to DXCEL. barrel-aged beers are a hot item in the US craft beer market, often regardless of actual quality, and practically none leaves its shores.

The beer is officially here now…at Home Plate and spreading out from there!!! Stay tuned for an official launch in Beijing soon.
