Cheers! wine shop and bar: Ten-kuai vino in Sanlitun

I’d call that a glass eye.

It is not quite Heaven Supermarket but perhaps Cheers!, a week-old wine shop and bar on the strip between Sanlitun Village North and Chufa Café / Kura Kura, can serve as kind of vino purgatory. Cheers is particularly promising for the budget conscious as the wine starts at rmb29 per bottle, with at least 10 options under rmb70.

Don’t expect anything too fancy. The shop is neat and clean, with individual bottles stacked on a torso-high shelf beneath which are  six packs for those seeking volume — there is a buy five, get one free deal. Not good enough? Buy something and get a membership card for a 10 percent discount on future purchases. I’d say these guys are looking to move a lot of wine.

The wines hail from France, South Africa, Australia, Spain and Germany, among other places, and are imported by Masueger Quality Wines (MQ Wines). One of the owners was keen on the Entwine Shiraz Rose Spritzer, which I believe retailed for rmb65, as a low-alcohol (5.5%) bubbly drink for summer.

Those who want to drink on the spot can grab a table out front. Expect to pay rmb10 and rmb15 per glass. I have yet to try any of the wines here but will aim to do so in the next week or so. Cheers also sells the nonalcoholic Swiss drink Rivellla at rmb25 per bottle.

You can find other Cheers locations here.
