Update: I did the draw today with chef and consultant Jeff Powell, who he has done work with Kro’s Nest in the past and more recently was at Flamme. He oversaw the draw and pulled the winner from dozens of crumbled bits of paper in a glass I soon hope to have filled with Guinness (it is almost happy hour). The winner of a 28-inch pizza, and ten beers, from Kro’s Nest: Kelly. Thanks to everyone who entered.

Update: The contest is closed. I’ll post the winner on Monday afternoon (tomorrow, Wednesday, as we’ll pull the winner tonight. Sorry for the delay!)
The new Kro’s Nest in Sanlitun will soon open and unleash upon us even bigger pizzas. The pies at Kro’s are already monsters so consider these new ones as monsters that eat other monsters and emit pepperoni burps powerful enough to kick up a sand storm. Word is the largest pizza will measure 28 inches (71 cm) – that means an extra 5 inches (13 cm) of pie — and when fully loaded weigh 14 pounds (6 kilos).
Even better, Kro’s Nest has agreed to give the first mega pizza and ten beers to one reader of this blog. To enter the contest, leave a comment and tell us what three-ingredient combo you like on your pizza. (I’m going back to school days and picking hot banana pepper rings, pineapple and green olives.) If you can’t decide on one threesome, feel free to enter twice, which I guess would be a double threesome.
Details:
- Leave a comment and tells us a favorite three item combo on a pizza. All reasonable comments will be entered into the draw.
- The winner (and friends) gets a 28-inch pizza and ten beers at the opening of Kro’s Nest in Sanlitun
on August 12soon. If that date doesn’t work, the winner can claim the pizza and beers later. - The deadline to enter is 5 PM on Friday, August 5. I’ll announce the winner next Monday.
(Note: There is also still time to enter the contest for 100 bottles of vodka and gin from Fubar. Details here.)

I’m thinking that when eating a 28 inch pizza, the three key ingredients would be:
Pepperoni
Sausage
Lipitor
first threesome: bacon, mushroom and ham
hmm second threesome, something sour and sweet. so beef, pineapple and green pepper.
hmm. i guess for me i’d have to go with.
1. jalapeno’s
2. onion’s
3. minced beef.
not sure if cheese is considered part of the threesome, but top it off with extra cheese. yeah. that sounds good.
Pickled banana pepper rings, pineapple, green olives…
Anchovies, Black Olives, Red Peppers… Yum
2nd Shot: Sausage, Green Peppers, Onions… Philly-Style Yum! (minus the thrown batteries and booing)
roasted red peppers, black olives, grilled eggplant
Garlic (extra), pepperoni and mushrooms… and I promise to fly all the way from Hong Kong to claim my prize if I win!
pineapple
ham
black olives
(not terribly adventurous, but its good!)
Pepperoni, sausage, bacon. And I’m going to use the money I save on triple bypass surgery.
bbq chicken, roasted roma tomatoes and garlic
Bacon, Bacon, and Bacon
One topping for a pizza that size will be boring for nothing other than a tomato-cheese-pepperoni enthusiast. So split into 3 sections, one anchovy-in-a-nicer-name with spinach (and Parmesan dust), one mushroom with maybe ham and olive, one pepperoni with peppers and onion (sliced thinly and pre-roasted).
Charlie Sheen’s Tiger Blood, Charcuterie from Corsica, Saffron
or
1. peperoni
2. Pineapple
I didn’t forget the last topping, which will be
3. bacon, wrapped around the entire pizza (including the top making it a topping)
Its great because my first favorite food will be wrapped around my second favorite food.
Anchovies, black olives and capers. Yum!
The Elvis: Peanut butter, banana, bacon
Pepperoni, black olives, mushrooms.
Spinach, feta cheese, and roasted spicy red peppers.
Ghost “Bhut Jolokia” Chilies, garlic, clams
Iberian Ham
Sweet Peppers
Extra Cheese
Hmm. Pesto, black olives and goat cheese?
I’m gonna go with:
1) Mushrooms
2) Pepperoni
3) Canadian Bacon
corn, tuna and some kind of fruit- China favorite
Rocky Mountain Special- Pep, IS, and Mushrooms
Pepperoni, mushrooms, black olives
I usually have sea cucumber, birds nest, and abalone. I usually eat some combination of those three for every meal, that’s why I came to China it’s so convenient to find them on menus.
Bratwurst, Sauerkraut and Onions
My three….Chorizo, Oysters and sprinkled with course Bacon dust!!!
Tuna, Anchovies and Mushrooms…
And the second one: A three out of “4 cheeses” pizza
i’d have to go with: Sun-dried tomatoes, gorgonzola and olives
First threesome: Sun-dried tomatoes, boursin cheese, black olives
Second threesome: Sweet potato, bacon and asparagus. That might be too many good flavors mixed together on top of a pizza, but I’d give it a try.
Sausage, pineapple, and red onions. Also the sauce would contain a ridiculous amount of Tobasco.
Capers, artichoke hearts, and feta cheese
Second one (since three is never enough): jalapenos, bacon, and cheddar cheese
Gotta go with meatball, fresh jalapeno and fresh garlic
BTW, whereabouts in SLT will the new Kro nest?
Second three to make it a six-pack:
Veggie time….green peppers, onion and fresh garlic
Yum!!!
Pepperoni
Jalapeno Peppers
Feta Cheese
(tabasco on the side….)
and Second Yum:
Anchovies
Green and Red Peppers
Olives
(start with a dry martini, fantastic!!)
simple is best: fresh mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, fresh basil
Perhaps some mushrooms (lots), pineapples (also lots) and banana peppers would be nice.
For a Pizza of this size I would want one octopus placed centrally with caramelized tentacles running radially to the crust, evenly distributed; one per slice, wearing pineapple ringlets, capped each with Bangladeshi naga chilli socks.
Slices eaten rolled starting with insane heat then cooling pineapple as one makes their way down the slice. Or slice swallowed in a duck fashion.
back to traditional: sausage, onions, peppers
Five poached eggs, mushrooms and black olives.
For the second, I think that it would be a take on Shui Zhu Niu Rou. This would include a lot of peppers, spicy beef and marinated cabbage.
For the first:
Spinach
Onions
Peppers
That’s a surprising amount of veg in 14 pounds I would imagine…so hey, we’ll get a little something healthy in there!
For the Second:
French Fries
Oreos
Whipped Cream
It would be amazingly beautiful and heart attack inducing.
chicken
onions
BBQ sauce
green olives, black olives, and hot sauce…?
Pepperoni, pepperoni, extra cheese.
Yum.
a suckling pig, foie gras and black pudding
I’m all about tradition: marinara sauce, basil, and mozzarella cheese. Few things on this earth can match it.
alternatively: wagyu, jamón ibérico and haggis
Ricotta, basil, pepperoni.
Porcini, Portabello, and goat cheese
Also can’t go wrong with some staple ingredients done really fresh, a normal pie topped with:
1) Fresh tomato slices
2) Fresh basil
3) Slices of buffalo mozz
Anchovies, olives and basil.
Ooh, dessert pizza: nutella, banana and coconut.
If you want it Chinese-style: tuna, corn, and Kewpie mayonnaise.
If I want it: prosciutto, kalamata olives, and artichoke hearts.
Feta cheese
Basil
sun-dried tomatoes
Cream
bacon
pesto
