Fat Burger Beijing: Anyone up for a 680-gram patty?

I’m fly at Fat Burger when I’m way out West East

- Apologies to The Beastie Boys (and hat tip to ZL)

It looks like fans of California chain Fat Burger will soon be able to dig into everything from 70-gram Baby Fat burgers to 680-gram Triple King burgers. The owner of the Beijing branch, near the new U.S. Embassy in the Liangmaqiao area, says it will open next week. It will add yet another option to a scene that has seen a smorgasbord of burger options over the past few years — see the links at the bottom of this post for more.

C’est la Tongli II: Another brick out of the wall

That stone facade at Tongli Studio became a little less imposing last month when a strip of windows was added for Biteapitta on the second floor on the north side. Now a second strip is being added, this time on the third floor on the south side, above White Rabbit and below Kokomo. Word is that a Japanese restaurant will open.

Action Jackson: Affable bar man moves from Salud to Tun

From the former Golden Elephant to Shut Up, Just Drink, bar man about town Jackson Bai has worked in about a dozen places since arriving in Beijing just over nine years ago. Now, after a stint at Salud in Sanlitun, he has moved on to a much bigger venue — and challenge — by joining the team at Tun. FYI, Tun still has good beer deals on Tuesdays and Thursdays — a pair of Tiger bottles is RMB20, while a pair of Stella drafts is RMB35.

C’est la Tongli: Juliette’s says au revoir

Juliette’s has buttered its last baguette, spread its final foie gras, popped its ulimate cork — the upscale French restaurant that replaced the somewhat upscale French restaurant Le Bistro Parisien in Tongli Studio is fini. While having former Jaan chef Guillaume Galliot in the kitchen, this place struggled on the service side as it aimed to provide high-end dining in close proximity to Sanlitun’s cheap drink joints and outdoor kebab, hot pot, and dan bing stands. Word has it that the next incarnation of this place will be as a bar — more on this soon. Looks like there will be some legal issues to sweep up before the Juliette’s sage is complete.
