Hilbert’s last stand: Tim’s Texas Roadhouse among two holdouts on Super Bar Street
Tim’s Texas Roadhouse (forefront) and New Get Lucky (further down) remain the lone holdouts on ex-Super Bar Street. The roadhouse’s Tim Hilbert is standing pat over compensation issues – he says he has made little headway after talks with the landlord and seeking advice from the U.S. Embassy (in background). Hilbert’s stand is hardly surprising given that just before the power was slated to be turned off on May 31, he cranked up a diesel generator to ensure the lights would stay on and the beer remain cold (see my live blog here). The place is now closed for business.
The ex-Super Bar Street area is surrounded by a wall that by day’s end will be completely topped with barbed wire. Meanwhile, workers quarters are under construction.
This includes a dividing line between the former bar strip and the nearby pond, which…
…. has not prevented the futile fishing season from continuing in full swing.
Tim’s and New Get Lucky are not the only ones visibly unhappy with circumstances at Super Bar Street. This venue just outside the wall is displaying its displeasure in both English and Chinese.
Here is the former Super Bar Street as seen from behind New Get Lucky.
And the former Pili Pili.
