What would Obama do? Fourth of July parties in Beijing
The list of Fourth of July parties in Beijing is starting to grow though I have found nary a mention of Black Cat Bone or DH & The Hellcats. C’est la vie. Here are some events to choose from this Saturday…
The Roadhouse (map) at Mutianyu, 11 AM to 6 PM: Enjoy a BBQ near the Great Wall, with blues band Woodie Alan providing music.
All-Star (map), 11 AM-11 PM: All-you-can-eat-BBQ, with baby back ribs, chicken kebabs, hot dogs, and more (RMB138, 11 AM t0 3 PM and 6 PM to 11 PM), and a buy-one, get-one-free deal on selected drinks.
Great Wall beach party: Join ten DJs and party where the Great Wall meets the sea. Tickets are RMB200 before July 1 and RMB250 after July 1 (no idea what they are on July 1) and are available at Yugong Yishan, Kokomo, Fish Nation, Serve the People, and Gongti Kro’s Nest in Chaoyang as well as at Lavita, The Bridge Café, and Kro’s Nest in Wudaokou and Obiwan in the Houhai area. Lush (map), all day: Burgers and Jello shots.
Legation Quarter / Ch’ienmen 23 (map), 11:30 AM to 4 PM. The American Chamber of Commerce holds its annual party, with food, drinks, games, and live music. To attend, you need to fill out the ticket application form and return with payment to AmCham before the event. Tickets are RMB175 for members and RMB275 for nonmembers. See here for details.
Gingko (map), from 9 PM: Rock band Bad Apples, hot dogs, and more.
Danger Doyle’s (map): All-you-can-eat BBQ (RMB100) on the rooftop on Saturday night, with RMB20 JD Cokes and American beers to wash it down.
Cosmos Hot Dogs (map): Get a hot dog-beer combo for RMB15.
The Beach (map), from 9 PM: This marks the official opening of this spot atop Block 8.
The Saddle Cantina (map), from 6 PM: Burger and drink specials plus a full slate of American music. The event rolls into the monthly two-for-one Cinco de Drinco event held on the fifth of each month.
Luga’s Villa (map), until 10 PM: Hot dogs and beer at RMB10 each.
And if you want to kick things off early, Tim’s Texas BBQ (map) holds its steak night on Friday from 6 PM to 10 PM, with slabs of meat ranging from RMB158 to RMB188.

The Beach…is that the name of a bar or area? Or is it where they had the sand volleyball during the Olympics? Not familiar with the area but I am looking to do something in town for the 4th. Can any elaborate on what “The Beach” is exactly?

It is the name of a rooftop bar that sits atop Block 8 on Chaoyang West. No volleyball pit that I’m aware of.
