Super (Re)Bar Street: Cranes and concrete, trucks and toilets

beijing-boyce-bars-blog-super-bar-street-chai

The deconstruction of Super Bar Street continues apace with some areas denuded except for a knee-high layer of concrete rubble and scrap metal while places here and there, including Tim’s Texas Roadhouse, Shamba, and Pili Pili, still stand. Backhoes and cranes are tearing the place apart asconvoys of flatbed trucks roll in to pick up garbage, scrap metal, furniture and soon – if the photo below is any indication – what someone considers a treasure trove of toilets and urinals. Frankly, I think they should move some of this mess to 798 where it could be worked into art and sold – perhaps even “as is” – to some naive collector.
