After several futile forays in recent weeks, I finally found Club Sandwich around the corner from a 7-ELEVEN, just southeast north of Sun City, about 300 meters – including a street crossing – west of the April Gourmet that is a block north of Workers Stadium. If those directions don’t work for you, check this map.
I had the BLT (RMB25), my third choice, as a lack of ingredients meant I couldn’t try the first two (ham, after all, is a crucial component of a ham and cheese sandwich). And what this place missed in ingredients, it didn’t make up in service efficiency, as it took an effort to get the staff’s attention. But the sandwiches are tasty and made with TLC, though a side of fries or simple soup would have made it perfectly filling.
What is excellent value, though, is the coffee – it starts at an economic crisis-friendly RMB10 per cup.
Club Sandwich has a rough and ready look (think: white paint sloshed over brick walls) and the reasonably comfortable chairs, fairly high ceilings, and strong wireless signal – along with that bargain coffee – make it a nice and airy stop for the wireless gang. I plan a return, both for a caffeine boost and to try this place’s pizza.

Considering that Club Sandwich has been open for about 3 months already, it’s a little worrisome that they are still suffering these inventory problems.
When I went with a friend for dinner a few weeks ago, they were completely out of pizza of any type (our first choice). We ordered our sandwichs and we waited and waited quite a long time before they were delivered. My friend took a bite of his ham and brie sandwich and discovered that there was no brie. The staff apologized and told us they didn’t have any brie. He tried again, ordering a grilled cheese sandwich that took another eternity to arrive.
The sandwiches are quite small, and would have been much better if they were served with a side of something rather than a la carte (4 Pringles potato chips does not count as a side). If I go out for a sandwich rather than slapping one together at home, I want something substantial and quick.
@ Arthoof,
OK, so I am not alone.
Yep, operations seems to be a major issue, from having proper ingredients to taking an order to delivering a sandwich in a reasonable amount of time. And I agree a side dish is needed as the sandwich alone didn’t fill me. Even some potato salad would do.
On the plus side, the coffee is cheap and comes quick, and the wireless signal is strong…
Cheers, Boyce
I totally agree with both of these reviews. Club Sandwich is in my neighborhood, and it took over my beloved Tube Station where I used to get tuna sandwiches for 18rmb.
I have been there about 6-8 times, and ordered delivery 3-4 times (hey, its convienient). I have never had a sandwich take less then than 15 minutes to make (in the shop)….it takes ridiculously long. The sandwiches are pricey and on the small side, and when i’ve gone, I didn’t even get the meager four pringles chips. They are good though. I can’t imagine how hungry you guys go after your sandwiches when they barely fill me.
For the pizzas, they are not bad. The crust is paper thin, which results in the fact that a large pizza just barely fills me up. While the outside crust has a texture and crispiness I quite like, towards the center, it is a little soggy (which how couldn’t it be, being that thin).
On calling in for delivery, the staff has absolutely no English ability. WHile I normally order in Chinese, I experimented once by only speaking english, and I got passed around to three different people in the muddle of confusion that occurs when only non-english speaking Chinese are employeed at mostly-Western restaurants.
That said, I’ve never run into the problem where they were out of incredients.
This place is so FULL of possibilities. Improving service and added a side would greatly increase satisfications, and these sides don’t have to be expensive. Jim, like you said, pototo salad would be fine.
That’s my 52 cents.
I live in Sun City, and agree that Club Sandwich sucks! By the way, it’s on the north side of Sun City, not just southeast of Sun City.
@ wine cyclist,
The biggest draw is the coffee. I can’t imagine going all the way to Club Sandwich for a meal that didn’t really didn’t feel me unless I plan to park with the laptop and have a brew cups of Joe.
Good to know about the delivery issues. Think I’ll stick with good old reliable Pizza Buona.

@ michael,
Thanks for the heads up on the directions!
