Room 101′s replacement: Gingko is a go

UPDATE: Woah, put a hold on that Gingko visit. While one person involved in the project told me at lunch that the place is opening today, another just emailed and said it will be a few days yet. I’ll update again when this is all figured out. UPDATE II: First floor is open.

Former Andingmen bar Room 101 re-opens today as Gingko. The two-floor joint will have drinks and finger foods such as pizza and sandwiches downstairs, while a Mediterranean restaurant will open next week upstairs. By the way, that nice curved staircase survived the renovations. I hope to pop by this week, if not tonight, but a heads up anyway for those who were waiting for the place to re-open.

Name That TUN: Prizes for DJ wannabes and non-wannabes alike

Your Name That TUN contest looks like fun, but I don’t want to be a DJ.

OK. Several people told me this during the weekend. Here’s the deal: We have two prizes for the 80s music fans out there.

1. You don’t want to be a DJ
Simply list three of your favorite 80s songs (and why) in the comments section here. Your name then goes into the draw for a package of four bottles of Strait Twenty – two gin and two vodka. (Please mention something like “bottles only” in the comment.)

2. You DO want to be a DJ
Again, list three of your favorite 80s songs (and why) in the comments section here. The winner of this draw gets a DJ lesson from Acupuncture Records to prep for his or her set at TUN on November 22. The winner also gets a private area at TUN, stocked with four bottles of gin and vodka from Strait, for 12 friends.

I’m assuming those who commented so far want to be a DJ (they are also in the draw for those four bottles of Strait Twenty).

One other thing. Your three songs are not your play list. If you win the DJ package, you can figure your set out later.

Hope this clears everything up!

For more details, including the ramifications of picking “We Built This City” by Starship, see here. In the words of Madonna, “Get Into the Groove” and enter the contest.
