Sequoia Cafe: Uncorking Canadian wine

Sequoia Cafe is cracking out the Canuck wine again - tonight’s tasting will include four wines from British Columbia paired with snacks from catering company Culinary Capers. As usual, RMB100 gets you a sample of each wine and some food. The corks start popping at 6:30 PM. RSVP with Frank Siegel at 13701-178-073.

Surely will visit Sequoia Cafe next time I’m in Beijing. For them to offer Canadian wine, and there are very good ones, they must have something going right.

100 RMB for wine tasting with (some) food !! That’s the way to promote wine consumption. Last May I was surprised to notice average Chinese drinking (red) wine in place of baijiu. I thought there would be a shift toward wine, but not this fast. Their price definitely is below 100 RMS, more like below 50. That’s where the big market is. This market is crying for a Fred Franzia.

    @ Y A Li,

Yes, it’s a good deal. Unfortunately, the wines at these tastings are usually not available at Sequoia for retail. They do have about two dozen good-value French wines, though.

    Cheers, Boyce
