Beijing nightclub staff to go under cover?
According to Reuters:
China’s government has told discos, karaoke bars and other entertainment venues to install windows in private rooms and ensure staff dress modestly from Oct 1 as part of an effort to crack down on prostitution and drugs.
The rules, reports Reuters, state that, “Staff members should dress tastefully, and not be too exposing.”
This is an interesting development, given that nightclubs seem to be using ever more sexual imagery. Also, how will “entertainment venue” be defined? After all, the qipai-wearing restaurant and bar staff at some of Beijing’s five-star hotels show more leg than a herd of giraffes.
Speaking of definitions, what constitutes “tasteful“? Is a crack police team going to race around town with tape measures and calipers to check outfits? Or will they take a more qualitative approach, such as that of former US Supreme Court Judge Potter Stuart, who said of pornography, “I know it when I see it“?

Here’s how you measure it: if you don’t get aroused, it’s tasteful.
@ Hotpoter,
Perhaps one man’s arousal is another man’s shrug?
