A Somewhat Young China Hand on the Local Drinking Scene

When will the madness end? My filthiest post ever

It has been a wild month in ye olde drinking scene in Beijing, what with the investigation of the country’s wine importers, the closing of Maggie’s, a raid in Sanlitun and a police presence in Nanluoguxiang, among other things. Somehow the effort to “clean up” the scene missed the vehicle below, which has sat across from Yashow market since Chinese New Year and had its hood sullied by a profane message, not doubt by some depraved foreigner. In case you are not skilled at deciphering hood scrawls, it reads, “I wish my wife was this dirty.”

The NLGX police presence was caused by an ugly incident on Saturday night when a guy walking down the street clipped the mirror of a car coming up the other way. Words were exchanged before the pedestrian and his mates (5 young guys in total) decided to take their anger out on the car by smashing the windows, before smashing the occupants of the car. Despite the fact that none of the people involved were foreigners or in a bar at the time, they are clamping down on all establishments along Nanluoguxiang, especially 12sqm, with 9 police in the bar on Monday night, almost breaking our record for number of people in the bar ;-)
