Celebrity Pub Crawl III: Homer Simpson

An obvious brew lover ((c) poster.net)
We’ve done Crockett and Tubbs, we’ve done The Desperate Wives. Now it’s time for someone more associated with night life, or at least beer - Homer Simpson.
Post a comment about where in Beijing you would take this Duff-loving visitor from Springfield and you’ll be entered in the weekly draw. He seems like a Phil’s Pub type of guy. Or maybe The Rickshaw. After all, he and Marge stopped in over Halloween.

The stars come out at night at The Rickshaw.
The prizes:
- A bottle of Grace Vineyard Tasya’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Torres
- A package of four books - Insider’s Guide to Beijing 2008, Mandarin Phrasebook, Healthy Chinese Cuisine: A Restaurant Ordering Guide, and Spicy Chinese Cuisine: A Restaurant Ordering Guide - from Immersion Guides.
The deadline for entering the draw is Tuesday at noon. The winner will be announced the next day. (Note: I can only ship prizes to addresses in Beijing. One entry per week per person, please.)

Goose and Duck for that Moe’s experience.
this one is a no contest… it’s gotta be the rickshaw so that he can finally meet his long lost twin brother, Chad
I’d say Phil’s Pub is more like Moe’s … though no beer on tap afaik
First to Beer Mania, as that’s the place for beer lovers to go to, and then Maggie’s, as that is the place for fat, middle-aged Western guys to go to ;-)
5:19 Bar & Grill
In a world where Maggie never outgrows her pacifier and Bart never graduates from the fourth grade, the 5:19 Bar would still be around to pacify the working stiffs with the evening’s first happy hour. Lenny and Carl can come too.
btw can i just comment how much the above photo disturbs me?
I would take him to LAN Club. All those mirrors - all that staring at the ceiling…. I would also run a live video feed of the restroom area to watch his reaction.
i’m thinking phil’s pub, too, it has that neighborhood look and is downscale enough for homer and his gang.
cheers might work, too.
I would have said Huxley’s had the most Moe’s-like vibe - but the place has rather gone to shit in the last year.
Current winner of the Moe-alike ‘dive’ dive bar of Beijing award (complete with its own Moe) must surely be Sammy’s - aka The Sunset Grill. That’s really a stripped-to-basics sports bar/drinking den/sleazepit….. with Duff (or perhaps it’s Fudd?) on draft.
I’m not sure your going to take my 5:19 suggestion for real. In that case, I have a 烟酒食品 near my home that would make a good stop for an evening with the people. I expect to get a lot of “霍默” from the 辛普森-loving hutong loving 市民.
I’m pretty sure Yanjing in big bottles tastes a lot like duff.
Returning from the sightseeing trip to QingDao we’d have to start out with some food. Something like the Rio Brazilian BBQ in Gui Jie might work. It’s all you can eat and draft beer, and they bring the meet around so no need for Homer to circulate the salat bowls. He’d bring the family for the dinner and Marge should be happy bouncing the beehive to some samba as well.
Afterwards to a bar. Phil’s Pub does come in mind, but I think I’d take him to Goose & Duck – it should be a fair chance of meeting a few of the Carls, Lennies and Barneys of BJ, they have beer and sports, and most importantly the option of a late night bacon sandwich as Homer is sure to be hungry again before the night ends.
Homer needs to go to the All Star Cafe quoted as “serv[ing] cheap American comfort food in proper American portions”. He can get his burger fix here. The menu also has a pork-chop sandwich (Homer’s favorite foods also contain pork rinds and pork chops along with Krusty Burgers, donuts and American cheese). After dinner, start the night off with bowling, the maximum physical sport Homer enjoys, with 2rmb Yanjing bottles of beer he should take advantage of while he is in China. After dinner, more beer at Beer Mania. He won’t be finding Duff beer in Beijing so might as well go for quality now.
For the love of the Simpsons, Kat, it sounds like you actually did some research for this!
Everyone, I’ll announce the winner tomorrow!
Cheers, Boyce
